Ram Motors In Flamboro Feature Trot
Ram muscled to the lead and held firm for a lifetime-best victory in the $9,900 conditioned trotting feature on Thursday, April 9 at Flamboro Downs.
With post-five starter Belvedere Jessica (Dagfin Henriksen) shooting out and securing early control, Ram swung wide into the first turn from post six and marched along the outside to take over past the quarter in :28.4. Ram was rated by Damian MacLellan to a :58.2 half and cruised down the backstretch with the first-up Overend (Brett MacDonald) stalled in third.
Darkness Cooks (Austin Sorrie) circled that one and surged to three-quarters in 1:28.2, drawing even with the leader as they entered the last turn, but Ram hit top gear and brushed him off in short order. Pocket-sitter Belvedere Jessica and the closing Charmbo Chip (Garrett Rooney) gave chase to the wire, but Ram was in command and scored by a half-length in 1:59. Charmbo Chip got up for second over Belvedere Jessica.
Ram’s win was his sixth of the season in 12 starts for trainer Cory Fuller. The four-year-old son of Royalty For Life-Monarch Butterfly, owned by James Wilson of Melancthon, Ont., upped his career record to seven-for-26 and his earnings to $42,477. He returned $4.50 to win.
