Send It In Hanover Tops McAssey Saratoga Triple

Send It In Hanover

Send It In Hanover won the Winners Over/Open Handicap Trot at Saratoga Casino Hotel for the third time this year on Tuesday, April 7, headlining a training triple for Jaymes McAssey.

McAssey has enjoyed a big first two months of the racing season at the Spa, and his stable’s trotting star was at the forefront of another fruitful day with an impressive win in the $22,917 feature. Reinsman Kyle Swift got the five-year-old gelding to the top just after the first quarter of :28, overtaking defending Saratoga Horse of the Year But Why (Jimmy Devaux). After clearing that rival, Send It In Hanover led the field to the half in :58.1 and three-quarters in 1:28, never encountering an anxious moment en route to victory in 1:56.4. But Why got the pocket ride and finished second, 2-3/4 lengths back. Longshot Delayed Hanover (Jacob Cutting) closed for third.

Send It In Hanover, owned by Paul O’Neil of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., joined Platinum As and Memorynimagination as high-steppers who have prevailed three times in the local Open in the early stages of the campaign. The son of Greenshoe-Southwind Percy is now 13-for-54 lifetime with $270,365 in earnings. He paid $4.36 to win.

McAssey teamed up with Swift for another two wins on the 12-race card. They scored with trotter Secret Or Not ($3.88), whose victory was his fourth of the year in 10 starts, before springing an upset in the finale with Asset Station ($45.10), who surprised at odds of 21-1. With the triple, McAssey moved into a tie for the lead in the trainers' standings with Melissa Beckwith, joining her on 39 wins. He is 40-for-197 overall this season.

Live racing continues at Saratoga on Wednesday with a matinee that begins at noon.
