JM Vangogh Passes

JM Vangogh

The connections of JM Vangogh have reported the passing of the legendary trotter this week, at the age of 26.

JM Vangogh was purchased for only $4,500 as a yearling by Paul Chambers and John Mello. The stallion by Earl out of the Lindys Crown mare Queen Tut went on to earn $2,285,500 in his racing career through the early 2000s. He made 206 career starts with 65 wins, 33 seconds and 22 thirds while competing against Grand Circuit, Ontario stakes and Open-level competition. JM Vangogh was broke and trained in the United States by his owner/trainer Paul Chambers and then sent to Ron Waples for his expert handling during his Canadian racing days.

In addition to multiple Preferred and Open victories, the world champion recorded wins in Ontario Sires Stakes Gold finals at Windsor Raceway and Flamboro Downs, finals of the Honourable Earl Rowe Memorial and Masters Series at Georgian Downs, and final of the Trotting Classic Series at Mohawk Racetrack.

He won the O’Brien Award as Canada's 2005 Older Male Trotter of the Year as well as multiple Woodbine Entertainment Group Trotter of the Year awards.

JM Vangogh was retired to limited stud duty following a career-ending injury in 2010. From just 14 starters, he sired two six-figure earning Delaware stakes winners.

"He's just been a dream. It was impossible to expect what he has done for us," said Paul Chambers when JM Vangogh was retired.

JM Vangogh's connections expressed gratitude towards their talented trotter and everyone who care for him, and noted he was the most intelligent and toughest horse they have ever seen.

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the connections of JM Vangogh.
