Adamsville Road By A Nose In Miami Valley Open

Adamsville Road winning at Miami Valley Raceway

Adamsville Road snapped a streak of six straight second-place finishes winning the $50,000 Open Trot at Miami Valley Raceway on Wednesday, April 1.

Adamsville Road and driver Luke Hanners left the gate from post six and had to work hard to make front, eventually clearing Yanks Dugout (Austin Hanners) past the :28 quarter marker.

The field headed single file to the half with Caviar Gold (David Miller) getting underway from fifth, flushed out by Sayinwhatimthinkin (Trevor Smith). They passed the half in :56.2, with Adamsville Road in comfortable control as they turned up the backside.

Nearing three-quarters in 1:24.4, Caviar Gold closed to within a length but advanced no closer and began to fade a bit around the final turn.

At the top of the stretch, Adamsville Road led by a length and a half but drifted out a little on the exit of the turn, allowing Yanks Dugout to attack from the inside. The two battled down the stretch with Yanks Dugout even briefly nosing ahead, but Adamsville Road fought back in the final steps and won by a nose in 1:53.1. Sayinwhatimthinkin closed for third, finishing 2-3/4 lengths behind.

The win was the second of the year for the John Melsheimer trainee, who is owned by Ohio-based Mel Rose Stable of Hopewell and Woodgrove Equine of Chandlersville. Adamsville Road has finished one-two in every start in 2026 so far. The seven-year-old Swan For All-She Wore Red gelding now has a lifetime total of 29 wins with earnings topping $800,000.

Luke Hanners led all drivers with four wins on the card while David Miller had three wins. Rick Plano and Deb Swartz each had a training double.

Miami Valley racing action closes out the week on Thursday afternoon with a post time of 4 p.m.
