Lets N Joy N Defeats Open Mares At Mohawk

Lets N Joy N winning at Woodbine Mohawk Park

Lets N Joy N, the beaten favourite whose perfect six-race North American streak was snapped in last week's top distaff class at Woodbine Mohawk Park, delivered on her pari-mutuel promise this time out for her first Open victory on Friday, March 27 as she snapped the streak of the returning Angostura Hanover.

This winter's Blizzard Series champion climbed to the top $40,000 Fillies & Mares Open level on Friday and defeated the season's leading money-earning mare and four-time Open winner Angostura Hanover in a career-best matching mile, timed in 1:52 flat, for trainer Jacques Dupont and owner Ecurie Csl of Sorel, Tracy, Que.

Sent postward as the 7-5 favourite from the innermost post in the field of 10, Lets N Joy N and driver James MacDonald landed a gapped fifth off the gate behind the early leavers. A 105-1 longshot, Sunshine Magic (Jonathan Drury) blasted off the outer wing to lead the mares into the first turn before millionairess So Much More (Doug McNair) took over just before reaching the quarter pole in :27.1 and kept the oncoming Absolution (Trevor Henry) parked until midway down the backstretch.

As last week's Open 2 winner Absolution cleared before the :56.1 half-mile mark, Angostura Hanover (Bob McClure), the 9-5 second choice in her return from a short break, rushed up from fourth to take over heading into the final turn with Lets N Joy N making her move next and charging to challenge past three-quarters in 1:25. The top two mares continued to battle through the stretch with the persistent Lets N Joy N forging ahead in a :26.4 final sprint to score by three-quarters of a length over Angostura Hanover. Absolution finished just over a length back in third.

A four-year-old daughter of Bettors Delight out of Rock N Joy, Lets N Joy N is now 11-for-15 lifetime with earnings topping the $100,000 mark.

The payout for a $2 win wager on Lets N Joy N was $4.90.

MacDonald, a four-time Friday winner, also drove Muscle Fashion ($4.30) to victory in a $20,000 Pop-Up Series final for trotters that started for a purse of $9,000 or less in 2026. Katie Graham trains the 11-year-old Muscle Hill-Yankee Senorita gelding, who won back-to-back series starts, this one in 1:55.3, for owner Steve Mihalic of Oakville, Ont.
