Major Megan Marches To Buffalo Open Win
Major Megan ascended to the $18,493 Fillies and Mares Open I-II Open Handicap Pace level at Buffalo Raceway on Wednesday, March 25 and made it two straight victories with a hard-fought score by a neck.
She took command early, jumping out to the lead with an opening panel of :28.4. Bee Okay A (Dave McNeight III) and Rightfully Mine (Ray Fisher Jr.) contently followed along in second and third, respectively, through a half of :58.2.
Midway down the backstretch with Major Megan still the boss, Bolt Of Beauty (Kevin Cummings) came calling on the outside and was a half-length back of the leader at three-quarters in 1:28. The pair were on even terms down the stretch, but Major Megan never wavered and hung on for the victory in 1:57. Bolt Of Beauty had to settle for second, while Face The Shadows (Drew Monti) took third.
Owned by the Summer Wind Stable of New York Inc., the six-year-old Major Megan is trained by Ron Beback Jr. The win was the second in seven appearances on the season for the daughter of Betterthancheddar-Sgt Molly Pitcher. She is now 23-for-109 lifetime with $253,960 in earnings. The win price was $5.78.
Monti showed the way on the day with a driving triple while Kyle and Kevin Cummings each collected doubles. Rachelle Mungillo had a pair of training wins.
Racing will return to Buffalo on Friday at 2:30 p.m. with another 10-race card scheduled.
