Wayne Pike Passes
Kevin Wayne Pike passed away at the Prince County Hospital in Summerside, P.E.I. surrounded by his family on Friday, March 20, 2026, at the age of 78, having faced Parkinson's with fortitude and grace.
Wayne was born in Harbour Grace, Nfld. on Dec. 19, 1947, to the late William (Bill) and Iva (Burden) Pike. Wayne and his wife, Norma (Birt), shared a beautiful journey through life. They have three children, Colleen Chappell, Darcie Pike-Wilkie (Wayne) and Wayne Pike Jr. (Brenda). Wayne was incredibly proud of his grandchildren, Brady (Erinn), Kiersten (Chad), Alex (Kolton), Seonna (Jarett), Kenan (Olivia), Elon (Julia), Wayne III (Adriana) and Bryden (Megan). He was the best Poppy to his great-grandchildren, Scottie, Easton, Oliver, Summer, Kenslee, Meadow, Rory and Millie. He is survived by his brother Carl (Donna), brothers-in-law Colin and Angus (Carol-Ann), and sisters-in-law Melena, Herta, Marilyn (Frank), Ola (Gary) and Florence (Rodney). He is predeceased by his brothers Wal and Gord, brothers-in-law Ray, Boyce, Danny and Allan, and sisters-in-law Eileen, Carolyn, Sandra and Joan.
Wayne lived a remarkable life filled with love, adventure and passion. He possessed a rare, disciplined work ethic, approaching every challenge with a solution-oriented mindset and a commitment to excellence.
Wayne was an accomplished military officer for 38 years. He was a visionary leader, guiding others with strength, integrity and inspiring others to reach their full potential. Wayne was honoured with the Order of Military Merit by the Governor General of Canada.
Wayne was a life-long learner, returning to university to attain his doctorate in Theology. He loved sharing the gospel and even organized a mission trip to his hometown in Newfoundland.
Throughout Wayne's life, he had a passion for Standardbred harness racing. Wayne was a horse owner, breeder, trainer and driver. Later in his career, he served as the Executive Director of the Prince Edward Island Harness Racing Industry Association.
As per Wayne's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service, but rather a family celebration of life.
