Shoot The Whiskey Wires London Preferred Foes
Shoot The Whiskey, after a close place finish when coming off a helmet a week ago, went wire-to-wire in the $12,000 Fillies and Mares Preferred Handicap Pace at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Tuesday, March 24.
Away from post four, Shoot The Whiskey raced alongside Ladies From Hell (Garrett Rooney) into the first turn and cleared her for control on the way to the quarter in :28.1. Charmbo Stormy (Samuel Fillion) left the pylons in front of the stands, beginning a long overland trek for the mare through middle panels of :58.2 and 1:26.3 set by Shoot The Whiskey.
Travis Cullen put the leader to a drive passing three-quarters, and she opened up a three-length gap on her four trailers on the final turn. Delta Sunrise (David Kelly) rushed from fourth down the stretch, but Shoot The Whiskey reached the line a measured 1-1/2-length winner in 1:55.4. Charmbo Stormy completed the ticket.
Shoot The Whiskey scored her 37th lifetime win in 157 starts and fourth of the season in 12 appearances. The seven-year-old daughter of Shadow Play-Arm In Arm is two-for-three in the London Preferred this year for trainer Jodie Cullen and owners Paul Sanders of Surrey, B.C., JJJ Stables of North Vancouver, B.C. and Travis Cullen of Dundas, Ont. Win tickets returned $2.50.
