A Blue Million Upsets In Dover Open

A Blue Million

A Blue Million saved ground along the pylons and pounced in the stretch to upset at 16-1 in the $34,247 Open Handicap Trot at Bally’s Dover on Tuesday, March 17.

Duly Resolved (Corey Callahan) was the aggressor early, stringing out Fruit Snacker (Tony Morgan) while Last Glow (Jack Parker Jr.) followed that rival and Benjamin Hanover (Tim Tetrick) raced three-wide into the first turn. Fruit Snacker finally cleared to the lead passing the opening quarter in :27.4, but Last Glow rushed up and grabbed control in front of the stands. Last Glow continued on the engine, keeping Benjamin Hanover parked through the half in a sharp :55.3.

Racing up the backstretch, Benjamin Hanover faded and Duly Resolved circled him to advance into contention. Fruit Snacker popped the pocket but broke stride at three-quarters in 1:24.4, leaving Duly Resolved first-over into the final turn. All of that action allowed A Blue Million (Montrell Teague) to advance to the pocket on the inside, and he surged up the rail in the stretch to beat Last Glow by a length in 1:54.1. Duly Resolved finished third.

A Blue Million, a five-year-old son of Swan In A Million-Ipo Blue Chip, is owned by Stephen Stoll and Nathan Yoder. The gelding is now 20-for-63 lifetime. He is trained by Tim Crissman. The win price was $34.

"I was a little surprised that he won," Crissman said after the race. "Montrell did a great job.”

The feature race at Bally’s Dover on Wednesday will be $25,000 USD Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace. Racin Hungry looks to win back-to-back races in the event.
