Captain Dee Tee Takes The Helm In Spa Top Pace
Captain Dee Tee, who finished his 2025 campaign with a lifetime-best 1:53.4 effort, got on the board in his fourth start of 2026 as he cut the mile in the $14,726 optional-claiming pace feature on Tuesday, March 17 at Saratoga Casino Hotel.
Jacob Cutting powered Captain Dee Tee out to the early lead in the feature on a windy, cold afternoon in the Spa City. Off at odds of 9-2, Captain Dee Tee coasted unopposed through the quarter in :28.3 and half in :59. Beanzy Fresh (Kyle Swift) challenged the leader to three-quarters in 1:28.1 but faded in the stretch, and Captain Dee Tee had little difficulty completing a wire-to-wire win in 1:58. Im A Papi Hanover (Matt Athearn) was two lengths back in second, followed by Barkovv (Brett Beckwith).
Beginning his four-year-old season in February, Captain Dee Tee had runner-up tries in two of his first three starts while competing in the winners-of-two-but-not-more-than-five-lifetime condition. He won at that class on Tuesday, improving to seven-for-41 lifetime. Trainer Kendra Cutting co-owns the son of Captain Trevor-Chicky Dee with Melinda Smith. Captain Dee Tee paid $11.40 for the score.
Jacob Cutting registered a grand slam on the 11-race Tuesday card as he wrapped up a big week in the sulky. He sits behind only Brett Beckwith in the local driver standings in the early going of the 2026 season at Saratoga.
Live racing resumes on Saturday with a first post time set for noon.
