Charmbo Stormy In Command In London Preferred
Charmbo Stormy cast a cloud over her rivals with a pacesetting victory in the $12,000 Fillies and Mares Preferred Handicap Pace on Tuesday, March 10 at The Raceway at the Western Fair District.
Making her first London appearance since repeat Preferred wins in January, Charmbo Stormy grabbed control with a confident first-quarter push, reaching past Delta Sunrise (David Kelly) for the lead nearing the end of the opening stanza in :27.3. She cruised to the half in :58 unopposed for Samuel Fillion and was under no pressure down the backside as the first-over Redlandbethanyjean (Tyler Moore) treaded water.
Charmbo Stormy picked up speed to three-quarters in 1:26.2 and separated from Delta Sunrise heading into the final turn. She straightened for home with a solid advantage, and it was more than enough to resist the closing Lyons Anitasangel (Scott Coulter) and win by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:56. Lady Hamish (Brady Galliers) closed down the outside for third.
Charmbo Stormy snagged her fourth win of the year in nine starts for trainer Jared Mann of Guelph, Ont., who co-owns the mare with Ronald Nobes of Fergus, Ont. The eight-year-old daughter of Sportswriter-Charmbo Lucky has won four straight appearances in the London Preferred, dating back to 2025. She is now 32-for-164 lifetime with $263,859 in earnings. Her backers received $3.40.
