Willowtime Grinds To Flamboro Feature Victory
Willowtime stepped up into the featured $11,000 optional-claiming trot class at a rainy Flamboro Downs on Thursday, March 5 and used a first-up effort to record his second straight victory.
He got away fifth from post three in a :29 first quarter but was first to leave the pylons as Samuel Fillion sent him out uncovered at the bottom of the second turn. Willowtime made headway through the half in 1:00.1 and, after losing ground as they turned for the backstretch, steadily clawed his way to within a half-length of pacesetter Southwind Domino (Travis Henry) at three-quarters in 1:30. Southwind Domino clung to his advantage around the final bend, but Willowtime produced a renewed rush down the lane and lifted to a one-length victory in 2:00.3 over a “good” track rated two seconds off. The Fixer (Paul MacKenzie) rolled up the inside to snag second over Southwind Domino.
Willowtime broke stride in his seasonal debut at Flamboro on Feb. 19 — also his first career visit to the track — but has since won two straight for trainer Herb Holland. The five-year-old son of Lookslikeachpndale-Sos Respect is 12-for-52 lifetime and has earned $568,953. Vincenzo Strangis of Toronto, Ont. owns the gelding. The win price was $4.20.
