Jett Propelled Flies High In Dover Winners Over
Jett Propelled scored her third consecutive victory via a two-move effort in the $28,767 Fillies and Mares Winners Over Select Handicap Pace at Bally’s Dover on Wednesday, March 4.
It was a case of late-night hardball as the pacing mares squared off early, with Jett Propelled firing away from post six but unable to clear Ballast (Tim Tetrick), who sought revenge from post three after being parked out early last week. Jett Propelled dropped into the pocket past the quarter in :27, leaving Square Deal (Tony Morgan) to press on uncovered. That rival's pressure created a gap in the two-hole, and she slid in behind Ballast before the half in :54.4.
Jett Propelled, the 6-5 favourite, was right-lined by driver Jason Thompson from third as they entered the backstretch and sprinted first-over to three-quarters in 1:23.1, drawing alongside Ballast at that marker. Ballast held the inside around the final turn, but Jett Propelled powered clear at the top of the stretch and won easily by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:52 over a surface listed as good. Square Deal shot up the pylons to be second over Ballast.
Jett Propelled is owned, trained and was bred by Bob Shahan of Harrington, De. The five-year-old daughter of Roddys Bags Again-Jett Away has won 19 of 72 career starts. She returned $4.40 to her investors.
"I was tickled to death with how she raced," Shahan said after the win. "I was a little concerned that she might get shuffled but it worked out.”
The feature on Thursday’s card at Dover will be the 10th-race $25,000 USD Open Handicap Pace. Downers Delight seeks his second consecutive victory in the event, but 11-year-old Itsrockandroll A and Stevens Saloon will press the issue. Post time for the card is 4:30 p.m.
