Side Effects proved she is to be taken seriously on Monday (March 2) at Woodbine Mohawk Park with the red-hot pacing mare streaking to her fifth straight victory in a conditioned claiming pace.

Side Effects was tabbed as the even-money favourite from post two in the field of eight pacing mares who were non-winners of $60,000 lifetime and in for a $20,000 tag. Driver Doug McNair tucked the favourite into third in the early stages as 21-1 shot Kobra Kate (Daryl Thiessen) controlled the tempo through a :27.3 first quarter. Side Effects utilized a backstretch brush in the second stanza, moving to the front around the longshot leader just after a half in :58.3. With Side Effects clearing moving into the final turn, Talldarklatte was now left first-over and applying pressure at the McNair wheel through three-quarters in 1:27.2.

Side Effects came under fire at the head of the lane, drifting off the cones and allowing Kobra Kate to advance to her inside while Talldarklatte continued to bear down on her outside. Wednesdays Child (Pail Davies) appeared poised to launch from second-over, taking aim at the leader before she jumped it off in deep-stretch. Side Effects continued to dig in, gamely getting to the wire a half-length clear of Kobra Kate in 1:55.1. Talldarklatte held sway for the third spot after her sustained first-over bid.

Side Effects has won six of her last eight, including five of six since joining the barn of Kyle Fellows on Jan. 19. Owned by Patrick Dillon and Patti Hoskin of Port Hope, Ont., Henry Tarniowy of Cobourg, Ont., and-Steve McGill of Bewdley, Ont., the four-year-old daughter of Control The Moment-Windsun Jagra sports a career bankroll of $77,595.

Just two races later, All Bets On Gary (Louis-Philippe Roy, $5.70) charged from second-over to score in the $25,000 Pop-Up Series Final for trainer Cassidy Schneider. All Bets On Gary timed his move to nail Tour Champion (Travis Henry) by a head, with Benjamin Bee (Daryl Thiessen) finishing third in the event for $20,000 claiming pacers who were non-winners of $30,000 lifetime.
