Royalty Beer Crowned In Western Fair Preferred

The six challengers were unable to dethrone Royalty Beer as the trotter delivered a front-end victory with driver Samuel Fillion as the 2-5 choice in the $12,000 Preferred Trot at The Raceway at Western Fair District on Monday (March 2).

Leaving from post four, Royalty Beer quickly crossed over to the cones on the engine before releasing Passarino (Jason Ryan) to the top on the backstretch. Royalty Beer didn't draft in the pocket long before moving to the outside, grabbing a short lead at the quarter in :28 before clearing and taking the field to the halfway point in :58.2. Patriarch Hanover (Brady Galliers) led the outer-flow into third when Royalty Beer hit the accelerator once more, reaching three-quarters in 1:26.2.

Spinning into the stretch, Royalty Beer continued to race clear on the lead while Patriarch Hanover and Passarino battled for the place position. Royalty Beer and a motionless Fillion crossed the wire 1-1/2 lengths clear, stopping the timer in 1:56.4 with Patriarch Hanover getting by Passarino for second.

Royalty Beer has won two of six on the season for owners Ecuries Maguire Inc of Sainte-Marie, Que., and Jean-Francois Maguire of Carlisle, Ont. who also trains the gelding. The seven-year-old son of Royalty For Life-Beer Mags is now a 36-time career winner, banking $452,477 lifetime.
