Buffalo Raceway Season Begins Wednesday

A 12-race card is set for Wednesday, March 4 at Buffalo Raceway, beginning at 2:30 p.m., as the Hamburg, New York half-mile track is ready to kick off its 2026 live harness racing season. 

Racing will commence on Wednesdays and Saturdays in March with Fridays being added to the schedule on April 3. Closing day will be July 19, the lone Sunday of the meet.

Of the 12 races carded for opening day, 10 of them have full fields of eight with races seven and 11 attracting seven starters.

All fans attending the races on track will receive a free program for opening day. 

Drivers Kevin Cummings and Joseph Chindano Jr. were each listed on 10 driving assignments with the defending driving champion Drew Monti ready to hop aboard eight starters. 

The feature will be a $13,500 USD conditioned optional claiming pace for fillies and mares with the rail-sitting Major Megan (Leon Bailey) tabbed as the morning line favourite at 2-1 for trainer Ron Beback Jr. Face The Shadow (Monti), from the Samuel Smith stable, drew the four post and is the second choice at 5-2.

On Saturday, the 'Lucky Exacta' contest returns at Buffalo Raceway. Fans will receive a 2026 schedule magnet, which will include an exacta combination. Should the exacta come in during select races, fans will get to spin the wheel for wagers that can be used on the last race on the program.
