Brue Hanover Back On Top In Mohawk Open

Brue Hanover

Brue Hanover recaptured the crown in the $40,000 Open Pace at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday, Feb. 28 as the Dave Menary trainee improved to four-for-seven in that class this year.

The gelding was among four horses gunning for the early lead but dropped into the three-hole entering the first turn while Dublin Dasher (Travis Cullen) muscled to the front in a :26.2 first split. James MacDonald soon sent the favoured Brue Hanover to the top with a methodical backstretch brush, and the six-year-old gelding took command at the half in :55.1. None of his foes were able to mount a challenge into the blizzard on the backside, leaving the leader to reach three-quarters unopposed in 1:23.3. Brue Hanover kicked away in mid-stretch and cruised home to score by 1-1/2 lengths in a seasonal-best 1:51.1. Lous World (Louis-Philippe Roy) and Poseidon Seelster (Bob McClure) both produced :26.2 final quarters and closed down the outside for second and third, respectively.

Brue Hanover returned to the winner’s circle following a week off after finishing second and third in the top pacing class in the first two weeks of February. He recorded career win number 35 and swelled his bankroll to $753,265 in 93 lifetime appearances. The son of Stay Hungry-Blind Ambition is owned by Burke Racing Stable LLC of Fredericktown, Pa. and Weaver Bruscemi LLC of Canonsburg, Pa. He paid $3.10 to win.
