When you’re an athletic kid that’s on his way to being seven feet tall, it’s tough not to be drawn to the sport of basketball - and that’s exactly what Sam Bowie did. In his first year at The University of Kentucky however, he also stumbled upon The Red Mile - by complete accident. A horseman there wisely let the well known 18-year-old kid jog a horse, and now, some 45 years later, Sam will tell you that although he played basketball for a living, his favourite sport - by far - is harness racing.
