Naked On A Hill Charges To Miami Valley Open Victory
Naked On A Hill vaulted off cover in the stretch and kicked home to capture the $49,315 Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace on Thursday, Feb. 26 at Miami Valley Raceway.
Starting from post two, Naked On A Hill dropped back at the start to settle in fourth as favourite and last week's winner, Hey Hey Mama (Luke Hanners), took command of the field to the quarter in :26.4. The group stayed single file past the half in :55.4 and remained that way until the five-eighths marker, where Chris Page angled Naked On A Hill off the cones and flushed out Foxy Hill (David Miller) to get cover through three-quarters in 1:23.3.
Hey Hey Mama turned for home ahead but under attack from Foxy Hill to her outside and pocket-sitting Tarapasta (Austin Hanners) at the pylons. The final blow, however, was delivered by Naked On A Hill as she swooped up in deep-stretch and won by a half-length in 1:51.1. Foxy Hill held for second while Hey Hey Mama finished third. The short, competitive field was covered by two lengths at the line.
For Naked On A Hill, the win was her third of the year in seven outings and second in her last three starts in Open company. The five-year-old daughter of Nob Hill High-Naked By Nine improved to 24-for-69 lifetime and pushed her earnings to $610,468. The Ron Burke trainee is owned by Burke Racing Stable LLC and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. She returned $6.20 to win.
The win completed a Burke sweep of the top two classes on the 14-race card after Aintnothingucando ($2.60) won the $39,726 high-level optional claimer.
Racing at Miami Valley will return on Sunday with a 4 p.m. first post.
