Jett Propelled Soars In Dover Winners Over

Jett Propelled

Jett Propelled took no prisoners as she delivered a tough gate-to-wire performance in the $27,397 Fillies and Mares Winners Over Select Handicap Pace at Bally’s Dover on Wednesday, Feb. 25.

Sparks were flying early when Jett Propelled (Jason Thompson) and Ballast (Tim Tetrick) raced side-by-side through an opening quarter in :25.4, with Jett Propelled finally forcing her opponent to retreat into the pocket in front of the stands. Jett Propelled sped through the half in :54.3 and led the field of quality pacing mares onto the backstretch. Linemup Knockmback (Allan Davis) braved a first-over bid in pursuit of a fired-up Jett Propelled, going nose-to-nose with the pacesetter to three-quarters in 1:22.3 with Racin Hungry looming second-over. Jett Propelled, the 6-5 favourite, kicked into another gear in the stretch and drew off to win by 2-3/4 lengths in a career-best 1:51.4. Racin Hungry came up the cones to grab second over Linemup Knockmback.

"I was dying to race her on the front after sitting along the pylons in her earlier races," Thompson said after the win. "I knew she would be better racing that way.”

Jett Propelled, a homebred daughter of Roddys Bags Again-Jett Away, is owned and trained by Bob Shahan. The five-year-old is now 18-for-71 lifetime. She paid $4.60 to win.

"Not bad for a homebred," Shahan said of the lifetime mark after the race.

Driver Tim Tetrick posted a triple on the 12-race program.

There is a Pick 5 carryover worth $2,098 beginning in the sixth race on Thursday night at Dover. The feature on that card will be the 10th-race $25,000 USD Open Handicap Pace.  Muskateer Hanover, last week’s winner, is set to battle rivals Downers Delight, Stevens Saloon and 11-year-old Itsrockandroll A.
