Settn A Precedent Sets The Tone In London Preferred

Driver Louis-Philippe Roy scoring his 2,000th career win

Settn A Precedent got on the board in 2026 as the eight-year-old went wire-to-wire in the $11,000 Fillies and Mares Preferred Handicap Pace on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at The Raceway at the Western Fair District.

The mare came out swinging from post five for Samuel Fillion, crossing over in front of her four rivals heading into the first turn, and she claimed a loose lead to the quarter in :29. Settn A Precedent operated on a 2-1/2-length advantage through the half in :59.3 and three-quarters in 1:29, but her foes began to encroach on the far turn, with Justine Ray (Jason Ryan) storming home three-wide from last. She narrowed the margin to a half-length, but Settn A Precedent hung on for the 1:59 victory. Redlandbethanyjean (Tyler Moore) was third.

Settn A Precedent scored her first win in eight attempts this year as she dropped down from the Woodbine Mohawk Park conditioned ranks. The daughter of Sunshine Beach-Magic Of Brussels is trained by Amanda Riley for Martin Kuepfer of Elmwood, Ont. She is now 32-for-156 lifetime and has earned $416,430. The win price was $3.70.
