Turn The Page N Prevails In Saratoga Mares Open
Turn The Page N scored an impressive victory in the $22,603 Fillies & Mares Open Handicap Pace on Sunday, Feb. 22 at Saratoga Casino Hotel.
Assigned post eight, Turn The Page N floated out a bit early but was unable to find a seat at the pylons. The seven-year-old distaffer wound up getting parked the mile albeit with cover as another parked-out rival, 2024 Jugette champion Soft Shot (Kyle Swift), did some of the heavy lifting. Driver/co-owner Ron Cushing sat behind Turn The Page N as she battled overland before tipping to the far outside around the final turn and powering up to get by pacesetter Waitforever N (Leon Bailey) in the final strides, winning in 1:57 over the "good" track. Missing by just a head, Waitforever N wound up as the runner-up for the second consecutive week and for the third time in four starts in the Mares Open this season. The race’s favourite, Miss Idaho A (Larry Stalbaum), finished third ahead of Soft Shot off a pocket trip.
Turn The Page N’s win followed a third-place finish in her season's debut at Yonkers Raceway on Feb. 13. She now boasts 23 career wins and earnings totalling $520,408.
Heidi Cushing trains the Vincent-Sheza Monkee mare, who is owned by Ron Cushing along with Kevin Sywyk of Swartz Creek, Michigan.
The New Zealand invader paid $11.68 to win in the mild upset.
