PHRA To Introduce 'Foal Cams'

The Pennsylvania Horse Racing Association (PHRA) is partnering with Delaware Valley University (DelVal) to host its annual Foal Cams initiative.

Foal Cams allow the public to view a live stream following three expectant mares and offer the opportunity to watch the birth of what could be the next standardbred stars in Pennsylvania harness racing.  Free of charge, the foal cams run will run 24-hours-a-day at pennhorseracing.com beginning February 23.

“Foal Cams is one of our most popular initiatives, and we are thrilled to have Delaware Valley University as a partner again this year,” said Ashley Eisenbeil, Marketing Director for the PHRA.  “We look forward to being able to offer the public this unique educational opportunity to experience the birthing process and learn more about the state’s equine industry.”

The 2026 Foal Cams will follow three mares as they go through the birthing process. All three are participating in their third year of Foal Cams and are currently projected to give birth in mid-March.

Thistle Dhu, a 15-year-old Standardbred trotter will be having her tenth foal this year with It’s Academic. Her due date is March 10. Ocean Love Potion, another 15-year-old Standardbred, was bred to Devious Man and is due on March 11. Finally, To The Good Life, a 16-year-old Standardbred trotter, is having her eighth foal, this one to Six Pack. The foal is due March 19.

Delaware Valley University in Doylestown, PA offers a remarkable Equine Science and Management Program that provides students with hands-on experience directly on campus at its Equestrian and Breeding Center. This program is one of the top in the country because of its direct access to horses on campus and continued hands-on learning. DelVal Equine Science and Management students have the unique opportunity to follow these mares from pre-birth care to the actual birthing event, and beyond to November when they appear at the Pennsylvania Standardbred Horse Sale in Harrisburg.
