Bay Of Sharks Repeats In 'Friendship'

The second round of the Friendship Pacing Series featured just two $12,000 divisions and only one repeat winner as Kawartha Downs played host to the series starters for the first time

.

All four first leg winners drew into the second division of the night, which saw Bay Of Sharks ($5.30) advance first over to win in 1:51.2 over Rock Me Amastreos and favourite Blended Whiskey, while Southwind Turbo was a vet scratch sick. Denis St. Pierre drove the winning six-year-old son of Cams Card Shark for trainer Corey Johnson and owner Michael Sergi of Canton, New York.

The other division went to the front-striding Amazon Art ($4.20) and driver Jonathan Drury in a career-best 1:51 flat. Randy Van Meer trains the six-year-old Artsplace gelding, who won by nearly six lengths over Natural Habitat. Dark Prince finished over 11 lengths behind in third. The popular winner, who was a runner-up to Blended Whiskey last time out, is owned by Harry Locke of Oshawa, Ont.

The series is for three-year-olds and up that are non-winners of $75,000 in 2011. Georgian and Kawartha Downs will alternate hosting legs of the series, which continues each Saturday in May and wraps up back at Georgian on Saturday, June 2 with a $40,000 (added) final.
