Benjamin Hanover Rebounds In Dover Open

Benjamin Hanover

Benjamin Hanover made amends for his early break in his previous start with a dominant victory in the $34,247 Open Handicap Trot at Bally’s Dover on Tuesday, Feb. 10.

Four horses left for early position, but Benjamin Hanover took command for Tim Tetrick as he strode past Every Day Dan (Mike Cole) on the first turn. Benjamin Hanover, the 1-5 favourite, then gave up the front to A Blue Million (Montrell Teague), who had won four consecutive races, as that rival reached the lead going by the stands and travelled to the half in :57.

Benjamin Hanover pulled the pocket as the field entered the backstretch, and he surged by A Blue Million to retake command before three-quarters in 1:26.1. Speed Away (Corey Callahan) advanced first-over but dropped into the vacant pocket on the final turn, and Benjamin Hanover drew off in the lane to win by three lengths under wraps in 1:54.2. Speed Away finished second, followed by Last Glow (Jack Parker Jr.).

Benjamin Hanover, a six-year-old son of Sebastian K S-By A Neck Hanover, is trained by Scott Di Domenico for Angela Cornell of Wantagh, N.Y. The gelding is now 31-for-56 lifetime. He paid $2.60 to win.

The next card at Dover on Wednesday is headlined by the $25,000 USD Fillies & Mares Open Handicap Pace. Racin Hungry seeks her second consecutive victory and takes on Jett Propelled and Ballast. First post on the 14-race card is 4:30 p.m.
