Simpson Splits To Googoo Gaagaa, Riverfest
Googoo Gaagaa rolled to a decisive five-length victory in the $54,866 John Simpson Memorial Stakes for three-year-old colt trotters Friday night at the Meadowlands Racetrack
.
With Corey Callahan at the lines, Googoo Gaagaa ($3) made the lead just before the half and opened up in the lane to take the first of two Simpson divisions on the card in 1:54.1. Royal Shyster and Gym Tan Laundry were a distant second and third, respectively.
Now eight-for-nine lifetime, Googoo Gaagaa was undefeated in six starts last year. He set a world record for a two-year-old trotters on a half-mile track with a 1:56 victory in the Maryland Sires Stakes Final on August 25, 2011 at Ocean Downs.
Ironically, the cross-bred colt is the son of a pacer, Cams Rocket, out of the Veeba Rova mare Koras Trotter. He is owned, bred and trained by Richard Hans of Westminster, Maryland.
After being parked the whole way, Riverfest ($6.40) gamely dug in to take the $51,375 filly division in 1:55.2. The daughter of Windsongs Legacy-Royal Roz improved her record to five wins in seven career starts for trainer/co-owner Joseph King and partner Marvin Meyer.
