Shoot The Whiskey Strong In Western Fair Preferred

Shoot The Whiskey

Shoot The Whiskey quickly took command and dominated the $11,000 Fillies and Mares Preferred Handicap Pace on Tuesday, Feb. 3 at The Raceway at the Western Fair District.

The seven-year-old mare, coming off a win in a conditioned pace at Woodbine Mohawk Park, strode three-wide into the first turn to the outside of Wildcat Delight (Brett MacDonald) and Justine Ray (Brady Galliers). The latter eventually backed off into the three-hole, and Shoot The Whiskey crossed over to the lead entering the backstretch and put up the first quarter of :28.4. Travis Cullen reined her in through the second split and got the mare to the half in :59.4.

With Get Answers (Austin Sorrie) stalling first-over, Shoot The Whiskey edged away from her rivals as she raced to three-quarters in 1:29, and the mare cruised down the stretch to a 2-1/4-length victory in 1:58.3. Wildcat Delight followed her home for a place finish, with Justine Ray third.

Shoot The Whiskey recorded her 36th lifetime victory in 151 starts and built her bankroll up to $449,867. Paul Sanders of Surrey, B.C., JJJ Stables of North Vancouver, B.C., and Travis Cullen of Dundas, Ont. own the daughter of Shadow Play-Arm In Arm. She is three-for-six in 2026 for trainer Jodie Cullen. The win price was $2.70.
