6K Series Continues At Rideau
The 6K Series continued at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Friday night with four $4,800 divisions of the fourth leg.
In the fastest fillies and mares pacing division, Bio Link rallied from off the pace to pick up her third consecutive victory in the series.
Trained and driven by Guy Gagnon, the post time favourite got away fifth as Landfairmaggiejane (Stephane Gendron) led the field past the first quarter pole in :27.3. Before the half in :56.4, Bio Link tipped out and advanced through a 1:26.4 third quarter, pulling away in the stretch by two lengths for the win in 1:57.
Red Breast (Jason Gilchrist) finished second and Jeri West (Gord Brown) rounded out the top three.
Bio Link is owned by Gagnon, J Rene Nerbonne, Jr. and Alain Despatie of Gatineau, Que. The four-year-old mare by Village Jiffy notched her 11th seasonal win.
In the first pacing division, Daisy Gamble picked up her first win of the series at odds of 9-1. The five-year-old mare, driven by Sean Sullivan, sat in third position as Dawnbrae Ashley (Jason Gilchrist) set the pace with panels of :27.4 and :57.1. At the 1:26.4 third quarter pole, Daisy Gamble tipped out and took the lead as Dawnbrae Ashley backed through the field. Daisy Gamble, a daughter of Cambest, stopped the clock in a career best time of 1:57.2.
Southwind Miata (Sandy Jones) finished over a length back in second and the post time favourite, Shark Tycoon (Gord Brown), was third.
Daisy Gamble, who is trained and owned by Isabelle Darveau, picked up her third seasonal win.
With Michel Turenne in the bike, Fox Valley Isbi posted a mild upset at 5-1 in the fastest trotting division, also picking up his first win of the series. The four-year-old International Chip gelding settled in second behind Dunmore Tcb (Ted McDonald) through the opening panels of :29.2 and 1:00, but longshot Scene Duharas (Jason Gilchrist) took control as the field passed the third quarter mark in 1:29.4. As Dunmore Tcb made a miscue, Fox Valley Isbi kicked into action, winning in 2:00.3 by three lengths.
Scene Duharas stayed for second and Sonic Yankee (Anne Marie Turenne) finished third.
Fox Valley Isbi, who is trained and co-owned by Wayne Catherwood, made his first trip this year to the winner's circle.
In the other trotting division, King Clifford took his throne for the second consecutive week. Driven by Jacques Beaudoin, the four-year-old King Conch gelding took control of the field after the :30.1 first quarter posted by Rudy Valley (Sandy Jones). The 2-1 third choice laid down fractions of 1:01.3 and 1:31.3 before coasting home by over three lengths in 2:02.1.
Rudy Valley finished second and Eastwood Fly (Michel Turenne) came on for third.
King Clifford is trained by Jason Gilchrist for Dr. Frederick Albert of Prescott, Ont. The winner of nine races this season and 12 in total passed the $100,000 mark in lifetime earnings with the victory.
