Meadowlands Cancels Racing This Weekend
Meadowlands Racetrack has cancelled its live harness racing programs scheduled for Friday, Jan. 30, Saturday, Jan. 31 and Sunday, Feb. 1 due to extremely low and potentially hazardous cold temperatures forecast for the Garden State this weekend.
Qualifiers, scheduled for Saturday at 4 p.m., are also cancelled.
"I spoke with Mark Ford, President of the SBOANJ [Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey], at length today regarding the weather," said Jason Settlemoir, Meadowlands Racetrack's Chief Operating Officer and General Manager. "Many of the horsemen expressed to Ford their concern with the negative temperatures our area would be feeling. Both the track and the SBOANJ want to ensure the health and wellness of our horsemen, women, and equine athletes. Based upon the feedback we were receiving, the decision was made to cancel live racing."
Meadowlands Racetrack, the FanDuel Sportsbook and Winners Bayonne will remain open for simulcasting and sports wagering.
When racing resumes next Friday, Feb. 6, there will be a $7,802 Pick 6 carryover.
