Tymal Riggs Too Good In Western Fair Preferred

Tymal Riggs

Tymal Riggs had enough left in the tank after an uncovered journey to kick away by 5-1/4 lengths in a dominant victory in the $11,000 Preferred Trot on Tuesday, Jan. 27 at The Raceway at the Western Fair District.

The nine-year-old initially slid in fourth at the behest of Travis Henry while Royalty Beer (Samuel Fillion) did the work up front, circling early leaver Insanity (Garrett Rooney) before the quarter in :29.4. Tymal Riggs rolled to the outside coming off the second turn and climbed past rivals in a long push over a track rated good with a three-second allowance.

He was 2-1/4 lengths back at the half in 1:01.1 but pulled up to the pacesetter on the backstretch, and that foe offered little fight as Tymal Riggs glided to the lead at three-quarters in 1:31.2. He left the rest behind, piling his advantage up to 5-1/4 lengths while completing the mile in 2:02.1. Amigo Mio (Austin Sorrie) finished second off the winner’s cover, followed by Cotton Candy Cutie (Brady Galliers).

Tymal Riggs took his second Preferred win in his last three starts for owner-trainer Mark Etsell of Rockwood, Ont. The Kadabra-All Filled Up stallion is a 31-time winner with $337,430 in earnings in 152 career outings. He returned $13.50 at the windows.
