Lauras Crush Romps In Western Fair Feature
After a half-length win a week ago, Lauras Crush blew away her five rivals with a wire-to-wire victory in the featured $7,600 optional-claiming pace for fillies and mares at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Wednesday, Jan. 21.
The mare made an early move to the driver’s seat, powering past Vivs Fright Train (Jay Harris) and assuming command before the quarter in :29.2. Damian MacLellan had her cruising through the half in 1:00.1, and as the gradually advancing Shadow Princess (Tyler Moore) approached her wheel at three-quarters in 1:29.1, Lauras Crush took off. The leader increased her margin to five lengths and finished under wraps in a 1:58.2 victory. Vivs Freight Train fought off Shadow Princess for second.
Lauras Crush, now two-for-two in the new year, is owned by Allan Shelton of Goderich, Ont. Natalie Elliott trains the four-year-old daughter of Sportswriter-Haute Couture, who recorded her eighth career win in 36 appearances and upped her earnings to $43,272. The win price was $3.70.
