Driver Jeremy Smith picked up his 4,000th career win on Tuesday, Jan. 20 at Miami Valley Raceway in an upset win with 22-1 longshot Cruisinoverfire.

The drive was fitting of Smith's career so far — doing his best to get himself in the right place at the right time. The public considered the milestone coming in the fourth race improbable, sending Smith and Cruisinoverfire away at long odds, but the reinsman got it done with a sharp drive.

Smith fired Cruisinoverfire out from post six with a host of inside leavers, but he was able to cross over to the lead as even-money favourite Brookview Freddy (Luke Hanners) waited for the early action to settle before brushing up quickly to take command past a quarter in :27.2. With a pocket trip now secured, Smith bided his time while a parked-out Dating A Virgin (Trace Tetrick) had no choice but to commit to a long first-over trip from seventh. Past the half in :57.3, Brookview Freddy showed the way while Dating A Virgin continued his uphill battle by inching nearer to the leader, eventually coming within a head at three-quarters in 1:26.

The leaders battled around the last turn and into the stretch as a pinned-in Cruisinoverfire waited patiently. The gelding found a gap just in time, as leader Brookview Freddy drifted just enough off the pylons to allow a loaded-with-pace Cruisinoverfire to sneak up the rail and provide Smith with win number 4,000. Cruisinoverfire won by a head in 1:55 over Brookview Freddy. Dating A Virgin finished third. Brian Georges trains the winning four-year-old son of Catch The Fire-Cruise On Ashley for Myron Koester, Nisonger Stable LLC, and Benson Roth. The win price was $46.80.

The 4,000 wins, paired with his $37.4 million in purses, make Smith one of the most successful drivers in Ohio. With recent driving titles under his belt, he also finished 2025 with a career-high $5.5 million in earnings, and that was while missing significant time to two injuries. The driver only seems to improve with age, and his future looks bright.
