Lauras Crush Captures London Wednesday Feature

Harness racing at The Raceway at Western Fair District

Lauras Crush prevailed off a tough trip over the snowy surface at The Raceway at the Western Fair District in the $7,600 conditioned feature for fillies and mares on Wednesday, Jan. 14.

Damian MacLellan tucked the mare away fourth through much of the first half while Momas On A Roll (Brett MacDonald) headed the group to fractions of :29.4 and 1:01.1. Lauras Crush mirrored the outside move of Vivs Freight Train (Jay Harris) approaching the half but quickly lost that cover as Vivs Freight Train steamed ahead to challenge Momas On A Roll, eclipsing the leader as the field straightened onto the backside.

Lauras Crush, meanwhile, hit top speed and barrelled up alongside Vivs Freight Train at three-quarters in 1:31. Those two sparred into the stretch, and Lauras Crush pushed ahead in the last 1/16th of the mile, then held on over a surging Abbey Gale (Don Rankin) to win by a half-length in 2:02 over a track rated good and three seconds slow. Freed From Desire (Anthony Haughan) won a three-across finish for third.

Lauras Crush tallied her seventh win in 35 tries for Allan Shelton of Goderich, Ont. and boosted her earnings to $39,472. Natalie Elliott trains the four-year-old Sportswriter-Haute Couture mare. The winner returned $3.90.
