Charmbo Stormy

Charmbo Stormy tallied her first win of the new year with a gate-to-wire performance in the $11,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace at The Raceway at Western Fair District on Monday, Jan. 12.

Samuel Fillion lined Charmbo Stormy up on the gate behind post five and the pair sprinted to the top without looking back. Maintaining a 1-1/2-length lead, Charmbo Stormy timed the quarter in :28 and half in :59.1 before continuing on to the three-quarters in 1:27.1. With a :29.1 final quarter, Charmbo Stormy opened up to win by 4-3/4 lengths over her foes. Ladies From Hell (Garrett Rooney) followed the pocket trip to finish second and Yoda Queen (Andy Moore) completed the ticket for show.

Trainer Jared Mann co-owns the eight-year-old daughter of Sportswriter out of the Camluck mare Charmbo Lucky with Ronald Nobes of Fergus, Ont. The mare won 12 of her 41 starts last year and added Monday's victory to yield 29 career victories. In 157 starts, Charmbo Stormy has banked $244,839. She paid $3.20 to win as the bettors' choice.
