Betternotmachme Goes Back-To-Back In Flamboro Preferred

Harness racing at Flamboro Downs

Betternotmachme pressed to the front early and held off the push of Charmbo Stormy to capture her second straight Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace at Flamboro Downs on Saturday, Dec. 27.

She revved up for Jason Ryan as the wings folded and charged into the first turn but was stuck wide as Justine Ray (Brady Galliers) advanced past Rocknroll Annie (Jay Harris) to take the lead. That one immediately moved to re-take, pulling out in front of Betternotmachme and stepping past Justine Ray before the quarter in :28.2. Betternotmachme then completed her mission, finally muscling to the top nearing the second turn, and was rewarded with a breather to the half in :58.

First off the pylons was Charmbo Stormy (Dale Spence), who trudged her way forward through the third quarter and forced action from Ryan at three-quarters in 1:27 as the challenger encroached. Betternotmachme responded, repelling Charmbo Stormy as they came into the lane and neutralizing her down the stretch to win by a length in 1:55.4. Charmbo Stormy finished second, followed by Rocknroll Annie in third.

Betternotmachme’s victory doubled her up in the Flamboro Preferred class after a tough front-end score a week ago. The Jodie Cullen-trained mare is now eight-for-42 this season for Wayne MacRae of Fall River, N.S. and Howmac Farms Ltd. of Brookfield, P.E.I. The five-year-old daughter of Betterthancheddar-Jackie And Doreen has won 28 times and earned $228,330 in 107 lifetime outings. She returned $3.80 to win.
