Stonebridge Zeus Strikes In London Top Trot
Stonebridge Zeus rode his recent electric form to a third victory in his past four starts in the $8,800 featured conditioned trot on Tuesday, Dec. 23 at The Raceway at the Western Fair District.
Travis Henry was intent on keeping the gelding in command, moving him forward early from post three and sending him back around Cotton Candy Cutie (Brady Galliers) after that one took over before the quarter in :28.4. Stonebridge Zeus carried the torch through 1:00.2 and 1:30.3 middle splits, chased along by Henry to the third station with favourite Lookproud (Austin Sorrie) on the approach.
Stonebridge Zeus brushed the attacker off on the final turn and slipped away from Cotton Candy Cutie, widening his advantage to three lengths in a 2:02.2 victory over a track labelled good. Cotton Candy Cutie finished second ahead of a dead heat for show between Lookproud and The Great Reset (Lorne House).
The winning gelding scored for the sixth time this year in 35 starts for trainer Bryan Lawrence of Hanover, Ont., who co-owns the gelding with Smurk Inc. of Elmira, Ont. Stonebridge Zeus, a six-year-old son of Resolve-Stonebridge Epic, now shows a record of 16 wins and $174,744 in earnings in 130 lifetime appearances. He returned $5.60.
