American History Retired, To Stand Stud

American History winning at Woodbine Mohawk Park

Trot Insider has learned that multiple stakes winner and near double millionaire American History has been retired and will stand stud in 2026.

A winner of the Breeders Crown Open Pace in 2019 at Woodbine Mohawk Park, American History retires with $1,927,095 in career earnings and with a career mark of 1:47 at The Meadowlands taken during his three-year-old campaign. American History will stand at Burkie By The Bay Stable in Prince Edward Island in 2026.

A 51-time winner known for his speed and longevity, American History earned a sub-1:50 mark every year between his three-year-old and 10-year-old campaigns. At three, American History racked up major victories in the Kentucky Sire Stakes final and Tattersalls Pace at The Red Mile over then Tony Alagna stablemate, Stay Hungry. The son of American Ideal-Perfect Touch then went on to tack on stakes victories in the Bobby Quillen Memorial and Breeders Crown at age four.

In the years since, American History has become a staple in the overnight and Open ranks at Woodbine Mohawk Park, having spent time in the barns of Dave Menary, Ben Hollingsworth, and most recently, a return to the stable of Dale and Mackenzie Spence.

"American History was everything you wanted in a racehorse," said Dale Spence. "Speed, toughness, longevity, soundness -- he was the total package. He may have lost a step of two, but he is just about as good going into retirement at age 10 as he was as a four-year-old when he won the Breeders Crown."

This will be American History's second stint at stud, having bred a limited crop in New Jersey during the 2021 breeding season, resulting in New Jersey Sire Stakes winner Making History.

"He's danced a lot of dances," continued Spence. "You don't realize just how much power he had until you're not racing him and you're racing others. It gives you a different respect for him. He's a horse to be celebrated."

The introductory stud fee for American History in 2026 will be $2,000.
