Mohawk Mandatory Jackpot Hi-5 Payout Saturday

Harness racing in the winter at Woodbine Mohawk Park

The Christmas racing week begins on Monday, Dec. 22 at Woodbine Mohawk Park with a packed 12-race card to start a stretch of notable wagering opportunities.

This week’s featured wager will be the Jackpot Hi-5 with a mandatory payout on Saturday, Dec. 27. Originally announced for Boxing Day, the mandatory payout is now set for Saturday with an overflow field of 12 to clash in race 12.

The Jackpot Hi-5 carryover currently sits at $189,705.70. The wager will continue to be offered on the race cards ahead of Saturday’s mandatory payout.

The Jackpot Hi-5 requires horseplayers to select the top five finishers in order. A horseplayer can only win the entire jackpot if they hold the only winning ticket for that evening’s wager. If there are multiple winning tickets, half the pool is paid out while the other half is added to the carryover. The Jackpot Hi-5 has a 20-cent minimum and a 15 per cent takeout.

On Monday night, the final card ahead of Christmas features 12 races and big fields throughout. Prior to scratches, nine of the 12 races consist of full fields of 10 while the other three races have fields of nine. The $75,000 Early Pick-5 will launch Monday's card in race one with a mid Pick-5 to start race six and a Late Pick-5 in race eight. Post time is 6:35 p.m.

Horseplayers will have no time for a Christmas hangover as Mohawk will offer its annual Boxing Day matinee program on Friday, Dec. 26. The 11-race card features the Valedictory Series final and Niagara Series final as well as a pair of Opens for pacers and trotters. Post time for Boxing Day is 1 p.m.
