Betternotmachme Best In Flamboro Preferred
Betternotmachme asserted herself early and stayed strong on the lead to win the $11,000 Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace on Saturday, Dec. 20 at Flamboro Downs.
The mare sprinted between two rivals entering the first turn and strong-armed her way to the front in a :28.1 opening quarter for Jason Ryan. There was no action until Lyons Anitasangel (Scott Coulter) left the three-hole at the half in :59.2, and she pushed the leader to three-quarters in 1:27.4. They raced abreast around the last turn, noses apart with an eighth of a mile to go, but Betternotmachme pulled away in the stretch to a 1-1/4-length victory in 1:56.3. Lyons Anitasangel finished second, followed by Justine Ray (Brady Galliers).
Betternotmachme has won both of her starts at Flamboro this year with Ryan aboard for trainer Jodie Cullen. The five-year-old daughter of Betterthancheddar-Jackie And Doreen tallied her seventh win of the season in 41 starts. She is 27-for-106 with $222,830 in lifetime earnings for owners Wayne MacRae of Fall River, N.S. and Howmac Farms Ltd. of Brookfield, P.E.I. She paid $2.60 to win.
