Marc Campbell became the first Prince Edward Island-based driver to hit $10 million in career purse earnings on a sparkling four-win evening during the Tuesday, Dec. 16 card at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The Orwell, P.E.I. native hit the milestone with a second-place finish aboard Skip Across in the fourth race but made four trips to the winner’s circle on the career-defining evening, including with Windemere Saddy in the $4,450 Fillies and Mares Preferred 2 Handicap Pace.

Windemere Saddy ($7.10) dropped in third early and stuck to the cones through :28.1 and :57.4 fractions. She then swung out turning for the backstretch, overwhelmed pacesetter Therealprincess (Gilles Barrieau) past three-quarters in 1:27.3, and drew 2-3/4 lengths clear for the 1:56.3 victory for trainer Saul Lanigan. Acefortyfour Dome (Jason Hughes) got up for second over Therealprincess. Windemere Saddy, a four-year-old daughter of Malicious-Hart Of Windemere, is owned by Lanigan of Cambridge, P.E.I., Shane Esson and Darcy Doyle of Moncton, N.B., and Isaac Schurman of Kensington, P.E.I. She is now 18-for-61 lifetime with $78,736 in earnings.

Campbell also won with Woodmere Styles ($4.50) in 2:01.1 for trainer Jamie Smith, Sophies Cam ($4.30) in 2:00 for Rick Armstrong, and Woodmere Honeymoon ($2.40) in 1:57.3 for Carson Wilkie. He is now the second driver to reach the $10 million mark while racing primarily in Atlantic Canada after Dieppe, N.B., native Gilles Barrieau. Campbell, who also became the first driver to record $1 million in a season in the Maritimes this year, has amassed 3,554 career wins in 15,825 starts. He leads the Charlottetown standings as he aims for his 16th straight driving title at the track.

Fight Song ($10.60) delivered a come-from-behind victory in the $4,200 Open Trot for driver Jason Hughes, trainer Ashley Gamester, and owner Donald MacRae of Vernon Bridge, P.E.I. The gelding settled in fifth behind arch-rival Buckhead Ridge (Marc Campbell) through a :29.1 first panel, then followed him into the outer flow past the half in :58.3. Both horses went around the tiring Helpfull Princess (Adam Merner) on the way to three-quarters in 1:29.2, with Buckhead Ridge kicking away from Fight Song with a backstretch rush. But Fight Song continued to make up ground and rounded up Buckhead Ridge late to score by a quarter-length in 1:59. New Legacy (David Dowling) completed the ticket.

Fight Song, a six-year-old son of Kadabra-Fortunes Of Fables, won for the 32nd time in 130 starts and increased his bankroll to $249,519.

Driver Corey MacPherson also celebrated a four-win evening at the lines, highlighted by Redland Peaches ($7.40) in 2:00.2 and Rocket Blast ($2.10) in 2:01.4, both from his own barn. Saulsbrook Pika ($4.40) was another MacPherson-driven winner in 1:58.2 for trainer Ron Matheson, and the reinsman also guided Anniemosity ($8) to a 2:01 victory for trainer Greg MacInnis.

Live racing continues on Saturday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. at Red Shores Charlottetown.
