Midnight Mover Grinds To Century Mile Preferred Win
Midnight Mover toughed out a taxing trip, staying game to the finish to take the $16,000 Preferred Pace on Saturday, Dec. 13 at Century Mile.
The stallion tucked in sixth to the quarter in :29 but began his march just past that point, advancing uncovered over the track listed as frozen. He rocked up alongside leader Outlaw Game On (Mike Hennessy) at the half in :58.2, dropping the puck on a back-half battle that raged through three-quarters in 1:26.3 with the combatants heads apart. Outlaw Game On carried his resistance into the stretch but was unable to hold off Midnight Mover, who strode clear to win by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:56.2. Outlaw Game On held second over a closing Caviart Scotland (Phil Giesbrecht).
Midnight Mover ended a three-race streak of seconds in the Preferred with his 18th win in 106 career starts, raising his bankroll to $166,101. Travis Ellis trains the six-year-old son of Mystician-Bouncing Hanover for Trevor Williams of Landmark, Man. The win price was $4.10.
