Maryland To Stand Stud In 2026
O'Brien and Dan Patch Award-winning trotter Maryland will stand stud in 2026.
Winbak Farm announced on Thursday, Dec. 11 that the three-year-old colt will stand in New York for the 2026 breeding season at a fee of $10,000 USD.
A career winner of $2,354,088, Maryland took a two-year-old mark of 1:51.4 at The Meadowlands and was individually timed in 1:49.2 at The Red Mile as a three-year-old. He was voted the 2024 O'Brien and Dan Patch Two-Year-Old Trotting Colt of the Year after earning $1,675,697 that season to become the richest freshman trotter of all time. As a freshman, he set track records at both The Meadowlands and Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Maryland, a well-conformed $475,000 yearling, was trained during his racing career by Marcus Melander and owned by Courant Inc., Pcw Racing Llc, Holly Lane Stud East Ltd., and Sstewartrthorn Stable. He is sired by Chapter Seven out of the Father Patrick mare Crucial 3,1:52.4f ($528,598). Maryland measured 16 hands (163 cm) as a three-year-old.
On the track, Maryland finished on the board in 15 of 18 starts, including six career wins. His Grade 1 stakes victories as a two-year-old were the Mohawk Million, Peter Haughton Memorial, William Wellwood Memorial and Breeders Crown.
