Windemere Saddy Soars In Charlottetown Preferred

Windemere Saddy starred in the $4,650 Fillies and Mares Preferred 1 Pace on Tuesday, Dec. 9 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park, going all the way for her second straight win.

The four-year-old daughter of Malicious-Hart Of Windemere controlled the terms from the rail for driver Marc Campbell, carving out splits of :28.2, :58.1 and 1:28.2 before closing out the victory in 1:57.2. She fended off a late bid from pocket-sitter Shake N Blake (David Dowling) by three-quarters of a length. Therealprincess (Gilles Barrieau) rallied for third. 

Trainer Saul Lanigan of Cambridge, P.E.I. shares ownership of Windemere Saddy with Shane Esson and Darcy Doyle of Moncton, N.B. and Isaac Schurman of Kensington, P.E.I. The mare has won 17 of 60 career outings and earned $76,511. She returned $2.90 at the windows. 

Whole Nother came in as the longest shot on the board in the $4,200 Open Trot, using a perfect two-hole trip to upset at 14-1 for driver Colin Sheppard and trainer Morgan Sheppard. He travelled behind leader Helpfull Princess (Adam Merner) through fractions of :30.2 and 1:01.3 over the good track, then tipped out approaching three-quarters in 1:31.4 and gradually worked his way to the front to win by a half-length over the closing New Legacy (David Dowling) in 2:01.2. The favoured Fight Song (Jason Hughes) got up for third.

Colin Sheppard and Darcy Duffenais of Brackley, P.E.I. own Whole Nother, who is now 14-for-88 lifetime with $99,650 in earnings. The five-year-old son of Nuncio-Undersong paid $30.50 to win.

Applepiemoonshine ($3.30) kicked off the evening with a determined first-over victory in 2:02.2 for driver Paul Langille and trainer Luke Burke. Promise Me Later ($4.60) doubled up the trainer in Race 11 with a 1:59.4 win for driver Barrieau. Jennifer Doyle also doubled, winning with Beth ($3.80) and Lady Devine ($6.60). Marc Campbell had a driving triple.
