Blue Hunt Doubles Up At Mohawk
Blue Hunt tracked down odds-on favourite Arbitrage Hanover in the $26,000 featured conditioned pace at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday, Dec. 6 for his second straight victory.
Arbitrage Hanover darted to the front in a flash from post six for Billy Davis Jr., leading to the quarter in :27.1 before Ed Hensley worked Blue Hunt to the top entering the backstretch. Arbitrage Hanover re-moved shortly after and cut the middle splits of :56.2 and 1:25, then quickly rebuffed the first-over Powertrain (Louis-Philippe Roy) coming off the final turn. Blue Hunt emerged from the pocket nearing the last eighth of a mile and kicked home with :26.4 speed, breezing past Arbitrage Hanover by 1-1/4 lengths for a 1:52 victory. Bruno No No No (J.R. Plante) was third.
Blue Hunt bagged his 20th career win in 98 starts and raised his earnings to $599,274. Jodie Cullen trains the five-year-old, who jumped in class in Saturday’s win after scoring on the drop from the Open level last week. The son of Huntsville-All On Top Hanover is owned by Donald MacRae of Vernon Bridge, P.E.I., Stephen Klunowski of North York, Ont., and Daguet Racing LLC of Wind-Gap, Pa. He returned $10.30 at the windows.
