Windemere Saddy Reaches Up In CDP Preferred

Windemere Saddy

Windemere Saddy collared favoured Sweet Molly in the final strides to win the Fillies and Mares Preferred 1 Pace at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park on Wednesday, Dec. 3 during a card that was rescheduled from Tuesday.

In the $4,650 top-class event, contested over a sloppy track, Sweet Molly (David Dowling) protected the rail and controlled all the fractions, rolling through splits of :28, :57.3 and 1:28. Windemere Saddy ($8.80) moved first-over for Marc Campbell nearing the final turn, advanced on the leader as they rounded for home, and picked her off to win by three-quarters of a length over a late closing Therealprincess (Gilles Barrieau) in 1:58.1. Sweet Molly finished third.

Windemere Saddy is owned by Shane Esson of Moncton, N.B., Saul Lanigan of Cambridge, P.E.I., Darcy Doyle of Moncton, and Isaac Schurman of Kensington, P.E.I. Lanigan trains the four-year-old daughter of Malicious-Hart Of Windemere, now a 16-time winner from 59 lifetime starts.

The $4,200 Open Trot went to the division’s current heavyweight as Buckhead Ridge ($3.70) used a powerful move to the lead and refused to be denied. Marc Campbell angled the Landon Campbell trainee first-over to the front past the opening quarter in :29, getting him there before the half in :59.1, and rated him to three-quarters in 1:30.2. The gelding then put the issue to rest with a :29.3 final quarter to complete a 2:00 score. New Legacy (David Dowling) was second while Fight Song (Jason Hughes) earned the show spot.

Buckhead Ridge, a five-year-old son of Nuncio-Tuonela, is now 23-for-60 lifetime. He is owned by Brady Doyle of Stratford, P.E.I.

Marc Campbell had three winners as he also tallied with Galway Girl ($3), also trained by Landon Campbell, in the 13th-race finale.

Red Dirt Diamond ($6) made it a clean sweep of the Joe & Steven MacRae Memorial Fall Series for pacing fillies and mares, winning the $6,000 third leg. She settled in fourth to the quarter in :30.1 for Brett Clow, began a first-over march before the half in 1:03 and eclipsed leader Ubettimagoodone (Jaycob Sweet) at three-quarters in 1:34, then pulled clear by 2-1/4 lengths in the stretch for a 2:03.4 win. Ubettimagoodone finished second, followed by Elm Grove Nanci (Ken Murphy).

The winner, owned and trained by Deanna Clow of New Haven, P.E.I., has now won three straight races after 56 straight losses. The five-year-old daughter of Source Of Pride-Oduya improved her career record to four-for-72.

Moon Bound ($12.70) won the P.E.I.S.H.O.A. event in Race 10 in 2:03.1 as part of a training triple for Jennifer Doyle. Doyle also delivered with Shake N Blake ($3.40) in 1:59.4 in Race 9 and Elm Grove Mistress ($3.80) with a 1:58.2 victory in Race 7. All three winners were driven by Dowling. Doyle has won 67 races this season and is third in the Charlottetown standings, now five wins back of leader Adam Merner.

Applepiemoonshine ($4.80) won Race 3 in 2:01.4 as the first half of a Luke Burke training double. Elm Grove Penney ($2.90) then won Race 11 for Burke in 2:02. Both had Paul Langille aboard.
