Sweet Molly Favoured In Delayed CDP Distaff Feature

Sweet Molly

A ferocious group of mares will line up in the Fillies & Mares Preferred 1 Pace during a rescheduled program on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The 13-dash presentation was delayed from it’s originally scheduled Tuesday time slot due to an impending weather system set to hit Prince Edward Island. The rescheduled Wednesday card gets underway at 6 p.m., with the $4,650 top-class event slated for the penultimate dash of the card.

Sweet Molly is the 5-2 morning line favourite and will look to add to her seven-win campaign from post two with co-owner David Dowling in the bike for trainer Jennifer Doyle and partners Clair Murphy of Millvale, P.E.I., Derrill Murphy of Lethbridge, Alta., and Cindy MacLean of Charlottetown, P.E.I. The four-year-old daughter of Sweet Lou-Cheyenne Molly was charging home with purpose last week, coming up just a length shy in 1:55.1 after a sharp final quarter.

The ultra-consistent Rosetown Mary drew the rail for trainer/driver Corey MacPherson and the five-year-old Pang Shui-Brodys Leona mare comes into the event with eight wins, eight seconds and two thirds from 23 seasonal starts.

Lady Devine will start from post three for driver Ken Murphy and owner/trainer Doyle while Atlantic Aged Pacing Mares Series champion Windemere Saddy, to be driven by Marc Campbell, has post four for trainer Saul Lanigan. Completing the field from post five is former Atlantic stakes star Therealprincess, who rides in with a two-race win streak for trainer Ron Matheson with Gilles Barrieau retaining the mount.

Sweet Molly’s current form, paired with the cozy inside landing, has her pegged as the mare all will be watching in the Post Time Picks: “Sweet Molly was storming on the end of it last week and only a length away at the finish. Lines up in a prime-time spot and Dowling will have her well placed from the hop, so we’re calling for win number eight on the season.”

The final leg of the Joe & Steven MacRae Memorial Fall Series for pacing mares hits the track in race two for a $6,000 purse. Red Dirt Diamond (Brett Clow) has been the monster of the division winning the first two legs for owner/trainer Deanna Clow and will leave from the outermost post five on Wednesday. The field also includes J J Kinley (Kenny Arsenault), Elm Grove Nanci (Ken Murphy), Twin B Solitaire (Steven Murphy) and Ubettimagoodone (Jaycob Sweet).

The $4,200 Open Trot lines up in race six with a seasoned tandem of diagonal-gaited stars. Buckhead Ridge (Marc Campbell) has been assigned the outside post five and his conditioner, Landon Campbell, will look to close the deficit in the trainer standings with the the morning line favourite. Brady Doyle of Stratford, P.E.I. owns the five-year-old Nuncio-Tuonela gelding, a 17-time winner in 2025. His main challenges will likely come from post three starter New Legacy (David Dowling) and Fight Song (Jason Hughes) from post four.

Race 10 is a PEISHOA-sponsored event with Woodmere Honeymoon (Marc Campbell) looking for her second straight win from post one for trainer Carson Wilkie.
