Taurasi Placed First In Mohawk Open

Taurasi

Taurasi was promoted to victory after suffering interference from Remember The Alamo in the closing stages of the $40,000 Open Pace on Saturday, Nov. 29 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

Remember The Alamo (Tyler Borth) and Taurasi (Doug McNair) were one-two the entire way as the former sprinted out from post six, settled on the engine in front of the latter, and put up fractions of :25.2, :55.1, and 1:23.1. Taurasi slid out coming off the final turn and went to work on the pacesetting favourite down the stretch. As he hit top speed at the eighth pole and looked primed to surge past his rival, Remember The Alamo drifted out, and the pair briefly hooked wheels, hindering Taurasi’s momentum. Remember The Alamo reached the finish first, but the inquiry sign was lit immediately, and the judges placed him second for interference, promoting Taurasi to victory. Brue Hanover (James MacDonald) was a gaining third.

Taurasi made it back-to-back Open victories after returning from a seven-week absence with a victory in the top class last week for trainer Gregg McNair and owners Brad Grant of Milton, Ont. and Alagna Racing LLC of Jackson, N.J. The six-year-old son of Racing Hill-Voluminous tallied his 29th career win in 81 starts and improved his bankroll to $867,124. He returned $15.10 to win.

The feature race was named the Evan’s Legacy Open Pace as part of a fundraiser event for the Evan’s Legacy foundation, which raises funds for research towards pediatric brain cancer.
