Fallout Upsets In Progress Pace Thriller

Fallout

Fallout battled uncovered through the final quarter-mile and prevailed in a three-horse photo to win the $386,930 Progress Pace for three-year-olds in a 20-1 upset at Dover Downs on Wednesday, Nov. 26.

Tim Tetrick settled the 2024 Metro Pace winner in sixth from a second-tier post-nine start, sitting well back of the action as odds-on favourite Dandy Ideal (Jason Bartlett) worked outside of Captain Optimistic (Scott Zeron) through a quarter of :26 to take the lead. Fallout followed Fusion (Dexter Dunn) off the pylons at the half in :53, taking his cover onto the backstretch until that rival stalled, forcing a three-wide move from Fallout nearing three-quarters in 1:21.2.

Fallout surged forward on the final turn, followed by Madden Oaks (Simon Allard), and put Dandy Ideal to a drive as they swung into the stretch. Captain Optimistic angled into the passing lane, and Madden Oaks shifted into the centre of the track to create a four-horse clash to the finish. Captain Optimistic briefly struck the front at the pylons, but Fallout rallied on to nail that foe and hold off Madden Oaks for the 1:49.4 triumph. Captain Optimistic was second by a nose, and Madden Oaks missed by a head. Dandy Ideal tired in the final strides and was a half-length back in fourth.

Fallout made an immediate impact in his first start for trainer Ron Burke and owners Burke Racing Stable, Larry Karr, Phil Collura, and Knox Services Inc. The Captaintreacherous-Aria Hanover colt took his second win of the season in 16 starts and reached the winner’s circle for the first time since June. He is now six-for-27 lifetime and has earned $1,208,897. The win price was $42.20.

The victory was one of seven on the 15-race card for Tetrick, who also piloted Odds On Put Option to a lifetime-best score in the $154,930 Ramona Hubbard Delaware Standardbred Breeders' Fund Final for two-year-old pacing fillies.

Tetrick sent Odds On Put Option to the lead from post six right as the wings opened, clearing even-money favourite Just Applause (Bartlett) through a :27.4 first quarter. Odds On Put Option then yielded control to Warrens Charm (Art Stafford Jr.), who brushed from third, with a circuit to go. After stalking from the pocket through middle splits of :56.2 and 1:25.4, Odds On Put Option was boxed in on the final turn by Just Applause, who re-emerged to mount a first-over rally and engage Warrens Charm.

Just before the top of the stretch, Just Applause broke stride, enabling Odds On Put Option to angle off the pegs at the eighth pole and overtake Warrens Charm to win by a widening 1-1/2 lengths in 1:54.1. Meemaws Column (Russell Foster) finished third, another 6-1/4 lengths in arrears.

Scott DiDomenico trains Odds On Put Option, now a four-time winner, for Odds On Racing. The daughter of Hes Watching-Odds On Hollywood has earned $150,419 from seven starts. As the 2-1 third choice, the filly returned $6 to win.

Tetrick also won with Parkavenuelisa ($2.40), Pilar Hanover ($5), Shellyonthebeach ($2.40), Wicked Weather ($3.40), and Oakwood Coral Ir ($8.20). The seven-win haul improved his 2025 tally to 425 from 2,069 starts for a win rate of 20.5 per cent.

The DSBF series for three-year-olds begin on Monday, Dec. 1 with a single $20,000 USD first-round preliminary event for sophomore trotting fillies kicking off a 15-race card. First post is 4:30 p.m.
