Checkpoint Chatter Did The Talking In Plainridge Feature

Checkpoint Chatter winning at Plainridge Park

Checkpoint Chatter turned an overland route into victory in the featured $21,127 conditioned pace at Plainridge Park on Monday, Nov. 24.

Checkpoint Chatter and driver Jim Hardy got away fourth and were already out and rolling as Beantown Ace (Nick Graffam) got to the half in :55.1. Checkpoint Chatter worked her way to second by the 1:22.4 three-quarters mark, but was still four lengths behind Beantown Ace. As the field moved through the final turn, Beantown Ace was losing ground and entered the stretch with only a two-length advantage. Meanwhile, Checkpoint Chatter continued to gain ground and finally went ahead by a length at the light in 1:53. Rys Red Rocket (Matty Athearn) edged out Bequeath (Mitch Cushing) for third.

Winning for the sixth time in 27 seasonal starts, Checkpoint Chatter returned $4.40 to her backers as the odds-on favourite. The seven-year-old Always A Virgin-Blistletoe mare is trained by Don Guidette and owned by Upland Farm of Wilbraham, Massachusetts.

Driver Bruce Ranger won four of the 10 races on the card and is now six wins ahead of Brett Beckwith for the Plainridge driving title (146-140) with only three days of racing left in the meet.

Live harness racing will resume at Plainridge on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 1 p.m. Just a reminder, Plainridge will close out the meet racing on Wednesday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Nov. 28 this week, as there will be no racing on the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday, Nov. 27.
