Royalty Beer drew the second tier after a wire-to-wire win last week and came off cover to take a late-dashing victory in the $10,000 Preferred Trot at Flamboro Downs on Thursday, Nov. 20.

Samuel Fillion seated Royalty Beer fifth behind rail starter Hey Ralphie (Jason Ryan) in a :27.4 quarter provided by Goodashim (Scott Coulter), who sprinted off the first turn to secure the lead. Royalty Beer followed Hey Ralphie to the outside near the half in :58.2 and tracked his cover through three-quarters in 1:27, then went three-wide on the last turn and surged to the wire to catch Goodashim by a nose in 1:56.4. Hey Ralphie was three-quarters of a length back in third.

Royalty Beer racked up the 15th win of his strong six-year-old campaign and hit the board for the 22nd time in 31 starts this year. Jean-Francois Maguire trains the gelding, who is now 33-for-104 lifetime with $432,547 in the bank. The Carlisle, Ont. resident owns the son of Royalty For Life-Beer Maggs with Ecuries Maguire Inc. of Sainte-Marie, Que. The win price was $8.20.
